Established in 1984，School of Materials Science and Engineering began to offer master’s degree programs in 1985 and has a master’s degree program of first-class discipline on Materials Science and Engineering. Meanwhile, it’s authorized to grant engineering master’s degree in Materials Engineering.
       The School offers 3 undergraduate programs: Materials Science and Engineering, Material Forming and Control Engineering, Welding Technology and Engineering, among which the Materials Science and Engineering and Material Forming and Control Engineering are authorized as Provincial Key Undergraduate Programs.
       The School provides good conditions for experimental education. It has a Provincial Key Laboratory of Processing and Preparation Technology of Special Material and 5 institutes：Institute of Functional Material and its Surface Technology, Molding Institute, Welding Institute, Foundry Institute and Institute of Material Advanced Forming Technology, which integrates research on new materials with practice. Owing to faculty and students’ great efforts, the school has been approved by the Sichuan Provincial Government as one of the provincial undergraduate training bases of "Materials Science and Engineering”.
       The school has a high-qualified faculty and returned scholars from abroad. There are 53 full-time teachers, of whom 41 are advanced technical personnel, 22 have obtained doctoral degrees. There are over 1,300 undergraduate and graduate students.
       The school encourages students to participate in national and provincial contests for many times. Right now the school is in charge of more than 30 national key research projects. Since 2000, faculty of the school has published more than 200 academic papers, of which over 50 have been retrieved by SCI, EI and ISTP.
