The School of Politics of XHU, merged by the Department of Teaching and Scientific Research of Ideological and Political Education and Department of Ideological and Political Education, was established in June, 2009.
     The School consists of 5 teaching units: Ideological and Political Education, Basic Principles of Marxism, Chinese Marxism, Ideological and Moral Cultivation and Basis of Law, Chinese Modern History as well as 3 institutes. It offers an undergraduate program in Ideological and Political Education and is authorized to grant a master degree of first-discipline on Marxism Theory.
The School is responsible for the ideological and political teaching of the whole university. It offers 5 excellent courses, Ideological and Moral Cultivation and Legal Basis, Basic Principles of Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought and Introduction to the Theory of Socialism with Chinese Characteristics, Chinese Modern History and Situation and Policy.
     There are 48 full-time teachers in total, including 13 professors, 24 associate professors. 36 teachers have obtained doctoral and master degrees. It has 171 undergraduate students and 83 graduate students. 
The School attaches great importance to scientific research. In recent five years, the school has taken on over 60 research projects on various topics and received over 10 awards at provincial and ministerial levels. Over 300 academic papers have been published with 70 papers in core journals.
